About Leon
The route wasn’t straightforward
Team GB Olympian, former international sprinter, former police officer, father and performance coach.

Seven chapters
From Batley to the Olympic Games
His story isn’t simply about reaching the Olympics. It’s about what happened on the way there.

Leon competes for British Bobsleigh & Skeleton as an athlete and has represented the organisation in media interviews.
- 01
The sprinter
Leon grew up in Batley, West Yorkshire. Sprinting was his first sport. He became Welsh 200m champion and went on to compete internationally.
- 02
The injury
After what should have been an ordinary training session, he was left with an injury that threatened his career. He was told he would never run again.
- 03
Three years back
Rehabilitation took three years. At the end of it Leon made the Great Britain bobsleigh team, in a sport that still depended on the speed he had worked so hard to get back.
- 04
On duty
For five years Leon was a police officer, fitting bobsleigh training and competition around the job.
- 05
The reserve
Making the team didn’t mean a place in the sled. For periods Leon was a reserve, training to the same level without knowing when his chance would come.
- 06
Selection
Olympic selection was decided over two weeks and two races. In Leon’s words, 18 years came down to those two races.
- 07
The Games, and after
Four years after making the Great Britain team, Leon competed for Team GB at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games. Along the way came five World Cup medals (one gold, one silver and three bronze), European Championship bronze and an overall four-man World Cup bronze Crystal Globe. Behind them are years of setbacks, difficult decisions and the relentless pursuit of improvement: the experiences he now shares with organisations.
Documentary
Beyond the Olympic Games
A documentary about Leon’s experiences in bobsleigh and the athlete behind the Olympic journey.

Away from competition
Some of the most useful lessons from elite sport are the ones that never make the highlights.
Leon is a father and a performance coach. On panels and in interviews he talks openly about the parts of elite sport that rarely make the highlights: selection, setbacks and being the one waiting for a chance.
Campaign
Train For This
Leon featured in a PureGym marketing campaign about his journey in elite sport and the dedication and preparation behind it. The same approach to training and preparation now shapes his work as a performance coach.

Before the Olympic Games
A different kind of pressure.
Long before the Olympic starting line, Leon was making decisions under pressure in a very different environment.
Leon previously served as a police officer with Thames Valley Police. The experience gave him a different perspective on responsibility, teamwork and remaining composed when situations become unpredictable.
